Tsuru

鶴 ・ つる ・ tsuru


Crane. A large bird with a long legs and a long neck that is outstretched when it flies. Designs are either stylized or realistic and often depict Japanese cranes (丹頂鶴・タンチョウヅル・tanchouzuru) that are black and white with a red patch on their heads. Cranes are a symbol of longevity and good fortune.  

Cranes are one of the longest living birds and can live up to 75 years.
