Tsubaki

椿 ・ ツバキ ・ tsubaki

Camellia. A large colorful flower with multiple layers of roundish petals. The flowers are either white, pink, red, or a gradation. Some types have large open petals and very distinct grouped together yellow stamen, while other types have very symmetrical (almost fractal-like) repeating layers of petals with no stamen visible. Tsubaki are evergreen (meaning they don't lose their leaves) so flowers and leaves appear together. The leaves are thick lozenge-shaped with a deep glossy dark green color. Tsubaki are sometimes stylized into an outline of the petals with a cylinder/tube-like shape in the center representing the stamen. Red camelia flowers represent love.

Tsubaki flowers bloom in spring. The flowers drop all of a sudden in one piece (making it not a good flower to give to sick people ;) Tsubaki seeds are used for oil. The symbol of Shiseido is a camellia.
