束熨斗 ・ たばねのし ・ tabanenoshi
Bundled strips of dried abalone or paper. The design shows a bundle (tabane) of thin strips tied together in the center. The strips used to be thin strips of abalone meat (noshi) but look more like paper ribbons. The motif can be used in an all-over single image or can be part of a patterned design. The strips are often elaborately decorated with different designs. Abalone is associated with longevity.
