光琳波 ・ こうりんなみ ・ kourinnami
A swirling water pattern consisting of an almost tentacle like line design. The design is similar to ryuusui (flowing water), but while ryuusui also shows a moving ripple pattern, kourin-nami tends to be a bit denser, with a wilder more swirling (irregular) looking line design. The pattern is often enclosed in a river shape.
Named after the painter Ogata Kourin (尾形光琳).
