アサガオ ・ 朝顔 ・ asagao
Japanese morning glory. A climbing plant with funnel-shaped round (five-sided) one-piece petals. The colors range from deep and light purple, and pink, to blue and white, with streaked varieties existing. The flower design often features a thin five-pointed star shape in a different color (gradation) separating the five merged segments. Depending on the variety of morning glory the leaves are heart-shaped or have three points. The flowers are frequently used in a large (stylized) design on summer kimono.
Blooms in summer, with the flowers opening in the morning.
